As the groom, there are not many duties that you traditionally have outside helping your wife with the more general decisions of wedding planning; however, you do still have duties that you need to execute on your own. The first is picking your best man and groomsmen. These are men who are close friends and family members are important people in your lives. Most of your personal duties will revolve around these guys. This article will help you know what these duties are and give you some helpful suggestions along the way.

First off, you need to come together with the guys and decide what tuxedos you will be wearing. The only input your bride will give is likely a reminder that you need to make sure that the tie or bowties, vest or cummerbunds, match the color scheme of what theme she decided for the wedding. Make sure that everyone is on the same page. You also need to make sure that everyone has the same style suit or tuxedo and that you can ones that fit each guy. Hopefully the majority of your friends have done this for one event or another, so this shouldn't be too hard.

A new trend is that the wedding shower is coed. In this case, make sure that the groomsmen and best man get together with bridesmaids to give their input for the planning. That way they can come up with an event everyone, whether they are men or women, will enjoy themselves. Your only other duty really is to show and have fun with your future bride. Of course there will be a bachelor party. Make sure that the guys know what you would prefer and remind them that is a party for a guy that is about to be married. If you have seen any movie that has a bachelor party you know how it can get out of hand pretty quickly and you will end up doing something that will really tick off your bride. So in the end, it is better to be safe than sorry. All the same, it doesn't have to be wild and crazy or raunchy for you to have a good time. Suggest or hint at activities that you would really want to do to your best man. Hopefully, they will be smart enough to take your tastes into consideration. All the same be prepared to be embarrassed in one way or another. That is just plain wedding tradition.

Your other responsibility as groom is to get thank you gifts for your best man and groomsmen. There are several great suggestions out there. First off, try giving watches. They are useful a great men's fashion statement and customizable. If you choose pocket watches or chronographs a great idea is to have them engraved. Another good idea is a desk accessory set or high quality pens. These are great for use in the office and with a personalized message stamped or engraved make great mementos of the wedding. You can also think outside the box. If you have gone to the men's section of a department store you know that there are cool gadgets and accessories for a guys' car, computer, or just simply fun games to play.
