Great Ideas For Fall Wedding Centerpieces

By Aaron Hu

As a bride planning a wedding this fall there are many details and events that you have to take care of. One of these is your reception. You want to make it an event that is both elegant and enjoyable for you, your groom, and your friends and family. This can be even more daunting in the face of the challenge of matching decor with the theme of autumn. The best way to describe how well your decorations will be received by guests is impact. That is the reaction they will have to the overall effect of your efforts. In the case of a fall theme you need to be able to use the season colors in the most effective manner possible. One area to put your best foot forward in reception decorations is centerpieces. These are the decorations that placed at the center of your guests' tables. A great centerpiece brings the theme of your wedding into close proximity to your guests and increases the impact and the overall effect. Here are some interesting suggestions for fall centerpieces.

You can use floral arrangements for color. For autumn the colors yellow, brown, red, and orange are the primary hues. Most people would think that the only way to use these in floral arrangements is as tree leaves and not as flowering desert plants such as succulents. While this is a good idea, it is still more than possible to use flowers at this time of year. The key is to go for flowers that either blossom in this season or to use out of season flowers. Out of season offerings are now going at clearance prices so they will be a great bargain. To match the seasonal motif, choose flowers that are in the seasonal hues. For example chrysanthemums, poppies, and dahlias are great choices for the floral arrangement of your centerpieces.

Use candles for romantic and intimate lighting. This being the beginning of the cooling months of the year, candles are a definite must for the ambience of autumn. A great idea is to use very traditional candles as part of your centerpiece. To enhance the warm glow of the candles, try going with colored candle holders in red, orange, or yellow. These will help you transform ordinary candlelight into great mood lighting for your reception hall. You can also add another dimension to the atmosphere with appropriately scented candles. Choose scents that best reflect autumn and are not too overpowering. Remember, that when eating, smell is an important factor that influences the taste of food. So keep with pleasant, subtle scents.

Use seasonal foliage. A part of any seasonal motif is bringing nature inside. Other than using cultivated flowers, go for native greenery that is common in the autumn months. Using berry yielding plants, evergreen, and other hardy seasonal plants is a great way to enhance your centerpieces. A great idea for a multidimensional effect is to mix these plants with your floral arrangements.

You cannot talk about your centerpieces without talking about place cards. These are the seating cards that help your guest find their assigned seats. The reason we need to consider them is that between the centerpiece, dinnerware, and place cards much of the table space is already used. So when picking these items makes sure to consider size and balance. You want a robust centerpiece, but not at the expense of making seating cards basically ineffective. - 30544
