How To Capitalize On Your Retail Design

By John Tan

The retail design of your business can play a huge role in the overall success of your business. In fact, your retail design is one of the key factors in communicating to customers who you are and what you stand for as a business. In retail image is everything.

retail design attempts to prompt people to buy through making best use of the available space and using advertising, displays and graphics. Your retail design should be fresh, clean, in good repair and attractive to customers. You should try to do a shop refit at least every seven years in order to maintain your image and many malls will contractually oblige you to refit your shop regularly.

There are ways that you can improve the retail design of your store without having to spend a lot of money on refitting and redesigning the store. One of the best ways to make your retail design more attractive and appealing to customers is to have great visual displays in store as well as in the windows.

Your visual display should be full of color and use different props to make a visual impact. Lots of different product manufacturers and companies actually employ visual merchandisers who will come to your business and set up displays for you. Don't be afraid to ask your reps to do this as it is in their interests to promote their products too.

Shelving and how products are placed on shelving is an important consideration of retail design. It is recommended to put your best selling and most costly items at eye level. Sometimes companies will give you special deals on products if you place them in a certain location. You should also line up your products largest to smallest left to right, when there is more than one size of a product. This is due to the fact that people's eyes naturally go to the left first since we read left to right.

Your shelves should be placed with just enough space above the products to reach them comfortably, there should not be a lot of empty space between shelves. You should also ensure that your shelves are well stocked. If you have plenty of stock on hand you create confidence in the product and create more of a visual impact.

Your store should be completely clean at all times. Having dirty floors, dusty shelves or half unpacked boxes detracts from your image and makes you look less organized and efficient as a business. This can harm your business as it takes away people's impression of you as professional.

The layout of your shelving, gondolas, display cases and dump bins should be done to increase the flow around the shop. Put bulk items and specials as well as new products in hot spots around the shop. The hottest spot in the shop is directly in front of the store entrance.

By putting a little thought and preparation into your retail design, you can create the right image for your business and use the retail design to lead to more sales and profit for your business. - 30544
